Izela Schutz Michel is a Mexican American, 2nd-year, SLP graduate student in the bilingual concentration program at Portland State University, where she also holds a Bachelor’s of Speech and Hearing Sciences. She’s the graduate student representative for the Oregon Speech and Hearing Association and ASHA’s Hispanic Caucus.
Izela’s passionate about preserving heritage languages; breaking cultural barriers; mentoring future SLP's; and diversity, equity, and inclusion. Her goal is to serve culturally and linguistically diverse populations, as well as under-resourced communities.
