Planning for the Praxis? Here is What’s Changing for 2027 Exams

Changes are in store for the Audiology and Speech‑Language Pathology PRAXIS exams (and the Audiology Assistant and SLP Assistant certification exams). They will be changing companies and moving from ETS to PSI early next year.

Why this matters for you

If you’re scheduling a test for late 2026, nothing changes right away — you can still book through ETS/Prometric until the end of the year. If you’re planning to sit for the exam in 2027, PSI will open registration through their system on November 3 so plan ahead.

The important thing: the exam itself, content, and scoring won’t shift, so your study plan and timeline stay relevant.

What’s changing

  • New test vendor: On January 11, 2027, PSI (a wholly owned subsidiary of ETS) will take over offering the Audiology and Speech‑Language Pathology PRAXIS exams.
  • Key dates: ETS and Prometric will continue offering the exams through December 31, 2026. Applications through PSI will open Tuesday, November 3, 2026. If you want to take a test in 2027, you’ll be able to schedule it starting November 3.
  • If you already have a voucher that you haven’t used, you’ll get instructions about how that transfers as the transition approaches.

What stays the same

  • Exam content will not change.
  • Passing scores will remain the same.
  • PRAXIS practice tests will still be available through ETS.
  • Testing Options: There will still be at 400+ secure in‑person testing centers and you can take the exam via PSI’s live remote proctoring.

Next steps

  • If you have a test scheduled before January 1, 2027: no action is required now. Your appointment should remain as booked.
  • If you plan to take a test in 2027: mark November 3, 2026, on your calendar for PSI registration. That’s when scheduling opens.
  • If you have an unused voucher: watch for transfer instructions — you’ll get details about timing and next steps.

Questions or concerns

If anything feels unclear, especially about vouchers, scheduling, or how this affects a licensure timeline — contact ASHA’s exam team at exams@asha.org. And keep an eye on ASHA communication channels for any updates.

National NSSLHA will share updates as we get them. If you’re in the middle of practicum, applications, or final semesters, take a deep breath: the tests aren’t changing in substance, and you can plan around the November and January transition dates.
